The size of a toilet cubicle depends on various factors. The area of application and applicable standards are the primary deciding factors. In existing buildings, the available space plays a decisive role in the planning process. The frequency of use of the sanitary facilities and the provision of toilet cubicles with integrated changing areas or for people with disabilities must also be taken into account when planning the size of the toilet cubicle.
The following standard dimensions are recommended in Germany for public or commercial sanitary facilities:
- Minimum height of toilet cubicle: 190 cm
- Minimum width of toilet cubicle: 85 cm
- Minimum area of toilet cubcle: ca. 1,25 m²
- Depth of movement in front of the toilet cubicle: mindestens 75 cm
- Other dimensions: 100 × 110 cm
Barrier-free toilet cubicles in accordance with DIN 18040
- Minimum dimension: 1,50 × 1,50 m (for wheelchair users)
- Door width: min. 90 cm, outward opening
- Grab bars: on both sides next to the toilet
- Turning circle: sufficient space for a wheelchair to turn (minimum diameter of 1.50 m)
